Julian Oberhofer
Julian Oberhofer Felderer works in Vienna and South Tyrol. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna; first four years with Prof. Ashley Scheirl. During his studies, Julian Oberhofer offered a job as an assistant to Christian Rosa in Vienna. After he received the offer to move to Los Angeles, nothing kept him in Vienna at the moment, and he moved to Los Angeles within a short period of time.
The team with Rosa didn’t last long and Oberhofer moved back to Vienna.
Julian Oberhofer’s works deal in a socially critical context with contemporary images of society, norms and patterns that the artist perceives and then works through in the process of creation. The viewer’s free interpretative access is important for the work. On his travels, the painter procures different perspectives of form and content, which inspire him in an experienced way and make memories projectable.
In his technique, a realism is striven for, which is however thoroughly surreal and allows abstract elements. Several painting techniques are used in his oil painting, starting with prima painting, in addition to glaze and layer painting. Watercolor painting is also used more frequently in order to be able to capture intuitive moods more quickly. In the three-dimensional sculptures, another possibility of expanding space and its complexity of shape recognition is explored.
